Aligned With Shreveport & Caddo Parish Solid Waste and Recycling Requirements
Shreveport multifamily properties must coordinate resident waste collection with the property's lawful downstream trash and recycling arrangement, applicable City solid-waste requirements, container configuration, collection frequency, bulk-waste procedures, and specialty-material controls.
Under Shreveport's solid-waste framework, City collection for apartment or other rental properties is limited to properties containing no more than four individual units per municipal address.
Apartment communities requiring collection and disposal service beyond the level authorized by the City's residential/commercial cart system must arrange other lawful means of collection and disposal. Larger apartment communities therefore should maintain an appropriate private or otherwise authorized downstream waste-hauling arrangement.
Shreveport's municipal recycling program is currently suspended. Apartment communities that provide recycling should therefore coordinate resident instructions with the property's actual private recycling provider and accepted-material list rather than relying on the suspended City curbside recycling program.
Caddo Parish separately provides regional recycling options. Parish compactor sites currently publish recycling for clean newspaper, cardboard, aluminum cans, and steel cans. Glass is not accepted in the Parish compactor-site recycling stream.

How Our Valet Trash Service Works in Shreveport
National Doorstep's standard multifamily service operates upstream from the property's municipal or private off-site waste hauler. Authorized doorstep personnel collect approved resident-set-out material and move it to property-designated dumpsters, compactors, trash rooms, or recycling collection points on private property.
The property's authorized downstream provider remains responsible for applicable off-site transportation, transfer, disposal, recycling processing, and other downstream services.
Shreveport Code contains permitting provisions applicable to persons collecting solid waste for hire. Property management should confirm the applicability of any City permit requirements to the property's specific operating model before implementation.

5-Night Collection Standard
National Doorstep's standard multifamily service model provides scheduled evening doorstep collection five nights per week, with property-specific operating plans available.

- Bag containment and sanitation requirements
- Property-approved collection locations

Resident Recycling Education
Recycling instructions can be delivered through the property's leasing packet addendum, resident onboarding materials, signage, and onsite collateral.
Because Shreveport's municipal recycling program is currently suspended, any apartment recycling instructions should match the actual private downstream recycling provider serving the property.
Materials accepted by Caddo Parish residential recycling sites should not automatically be treated as the accepted-material list for a privately serviced multifamily property.

Important Shreveport Multifamily Waste Controls
A Shreveport multifamily waste program should be designed around the property's unit count, municipal address configuration, occupancy, building layout, dumpster or compactor capacity, collection frequency, downstream hauling contract, recycling provider, and resident behavior.
- Confirm unit count and City-service eligibility: apartment or rental properties using City collection may not exceed four individual units per municipal address
- Maintain lawful downstream collection: properties requiring more service than the City system authorizes should maintain another lawful collection and disposal arrangement
- Maintain sufficient dumpster, compactor, or receptacle capacity for actual property waste volume
- Prevent loose trash, overflow, windblown material, and unauthorized dumping
- Coordinate doorstep collection with the property's approved dumpster, compactor, and downstream hauling system
- Maintain written resident procedures for ordinary trash, private recycling, furniture, appliances, tires, electronics, batteries, paint, automotive fluids, and HHW
- Keep hazardous waste and prohibited specialty materials outside the ordinary doorstep waste stream
- Coordinate recycling instructions with the property's actual recycling contractor
- Maintain service logs, Proof of Pickup® records, photographs, contamination records, illegal-dumping records, and corrective-action documentation

Keep Bulk Waste & Specialty Materials Out of Ordinary Doorstep Service
Shreveport's municipal bulky-item collection program is published for residential customers only, and the City states that bulk items are not collected from commercial properties.
Larger apartment communities should therefore establish a property-specific procedure for furniture, mattresses, appliances, tires, abandoned move-out items, contractor debris, and other bulky waste rather than assuming City residential bulk pickup applies to the apartment property.
Shreveport also provides a separate household hazardous-waste pathway in cooperation with Shreveport Green. Residents are currently directed to call Shreveport Green to schedule an appointment for qualifying household materials such as paint, pesticides, herbicides, used motor oil, car batteries, tires, and other household hazardous waste.
Hazardous and specialty materials should remain outside the ordinary National Doorstep collection stream unless the property establishes a lawful, specifically authorized handling pathway.

New Construction & Renovation Guidance
When designing or renovating a Shreveport apartment trash room, dumpster enclosure, or multifamily waste collection area, consider:
- Adequate space for anticipated trash and recycling volume
- Dumpster or compactor capacity matched to occupancy and collection frequency
- Controlled and accessible collection routes for residents, onsite personnel, National Doorstep porters, and the downstream hauler
- A water source or spigot where permitted and appropriate for sanitation and wash-down procedures
- Properly designed floor slope and drainage where required and approved
- Durable, washable surfaces suitable for waste-area sanitation
- Ventilation, pest-control, odor-control, and spill-management planning
- Clear separation between ordinary refuse, recyclables, bulky items, and prohibited or specialty materials
- Dumpster or recycling-container screening, placement, drainage, and enclosure requirements applicable to the property's jurisdiction
- Compliance with applicable building, plumbing, fire, accessibility, environmental, zoning, and property-specific requirements
Final waste-room, dumpster, and recycling-enclosure design should be reviewed by the appropriate licensed design professionals and authorities having jurisdiction.
